Thanks for this excellent interview. I just listened to the audio of the commission meeting that is posted on Goodasyou.com. It is very clear that the NOM people are dissembling (or, actually, lying through their teeth). I hope that they are prosecuted for perjury. Failing that, I hope that NOM is exposed as the money-laundering racket that they are.

Whoever prepared that Sep. 21 letter likely mistakenly pulled that $3.5 million figure from NOM's reported aggregate expenses for 2007 and 2008.

Great post, Karen! Just updated my "daily reading blogroll" to include LGBT POV.

Why doesn't the expenditures reported by NOM on their 2008 Form 990 match the expenses totals they reported to the Commission? In their September 21 letter, they told the Commission that their expenses for 2008 were $3.5 million. In their Form 990, they disclose total expenses of $2.9 million.

How can they both be accurate?

I do NOT know. But I imagine the commission's report would be sent over to the local law enforcement and if 990s are involved, the feds might want to look into it as well.

It's a good follow up question for an attorney. I'll ask.
Thanks -
Karen O.

Amazing interview.

Do we know what the ramifications will be if NOM, in particular Brian Brown, is found guilty of perjury and money laundering? What's the extent of the Commission's power?
